Ginger Chin Chin

Makes: about 25–30 servings

Ingredients

– 3 cups all-purpose flour
– ½ cup sugar
– ½ cup butter or margarine
– 1 egg
– ½ cup milk or evaporated milk
– 1½ tsp ground ginger
– ½ tsp nutmeg
– ½ tsp baking powder
– Pinch of salt
– Vegetable oil (for frying)

Method

  1. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, ginger, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt.
    2. Rub butter into the flour mixture until crumbly.
    3. Add egg and milk gradually to form a firm dough.
    4. Roll dough thin (3–4 mm) and cut into small squares or strips.
    5. Heat oil over medium heat and fry chin chin in batches until golden.
    6. Remove, drain on paper towel, and allow to cool completely.
